About iiResearch.org

iiResearch.org is a website designed to help individual clinical scientists collaborate on the design and initiation of high-quality multicenter Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs).

iiResearch.org is intended to encourage clinicians who are “in-the-trenches” to collaborate on do-it-yourself RCTs and to provide scientific answers to vital clinical questions which would otherwise remain unresolved.

iiResearch.org will help find answers in diverse clinical settings including:

  1. 1) Off Label Use of Drugs having high potential for patient benefit
  2. 2) Diseases in Developing Countries where there is little financial incentive for corporate funding and where there is no government funding for clinical research
  3. 3) Rare Diseases having no financial incentive for industry initiated research
  4. 4) Cosmetic Surgery, Dermatologic Surgery, and Plastic Surgery: published research in these specialties rarely includes well-designed multicenter RCTs
  5. 5) “Low Priority” Therapeutic Problems which are often ignored by funding agencies, but are of high interest to practicing clinicians

Clinicians are commonly confronted with the dilemma of having multiple treatment options without evidence-based guidance.  iiResearch.org helps to provide evidence-based solutions by helping to organize collaborative low-budget multicenter RCTs which can be self-funded by participating researchers.  In this sense, iiResearch.org is analogous to a micro-loan program for entrepreneurs in a developing country.  iiResearch.org helps individuals collaborate to achieve significant results without support of large bureaucratic institutions.

iiResearch.org is intended to help multiple clinicians, who might not previously have known each other, to meet online and to collaborate on the design and development of IRB-approved multicenter RCTs.  The site will eventually provide biostatistical support specific to the design of RCTs in the form of instructional tutorials and on line access to biostatistical consultation.  iiResearch.org is not intended to manage an RCT after IRB approval has been achieved.  RCTs which are small or not complex can often be managed without specialized software.  There are many excellent RCT management software programs which help manage larger RCTs.
